A postdoctoral NIH funded position is available immediately to study translational regulation of the human surfactant protein A, see AJP Lung Cell Mol Physiol 299:L5234-L534 or study splicing of the surfactant protein B. Our major research interests include study of mechanisms that may contribute to the individual variability in pulmonary disease susceptibility as well as the impact of environmental pollution and ozone in particular on human lung injury in the presence or absence of infection. A successful candidate must be a citizen, have experience in molecular biology, ability of independent thinking, and work well with others.

The laboratory studies the role of the innate immune system during normal and pathological pregnancies, as well as the immunological functions of the placenta. This project will be to study the role of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in placental responses to bacterial and viral infections. Specifically the aim of this project is to characterize the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which TLR2 and TLR8 mediate trophoblast inflammation and apoptosis in response to bacterial and viral components, and to determine the impact on pregnancy outcome.
